IH Axial-Flow combine history

The axial flow combines were he best. IH was second place in the combine business before they got the axial flow. The IH harvester company went full tilt into making a machine that was totally different than all the other machines in the industry.
The 1480 had a 190HP DT-436 IH engine, 30 inch rotor, 208 bushel grain tank, and a sieve cleaning area of 6420 square inches. The 1460 had a 170HP DT-436 IH engine, 24inch rotor, 180 bushel capacity grain tank, with a sieve cleaning area of 4750 square inches. The 1440 had a 135HP D-436 IH engine,24 inch rotor, 145 bushel capacity grain tank, with a sieve cleaning area of 4750 square inches. While the 1440 and 1460 shared the same threshing and separating specs, there were a few other differences besides grain tank capacity and engine horsepower. IH also offered a hillside model 1470 with a 210hp IH DT-466 engine, 145 bushel grain tank, 24 inch rotor and the 1482 pull-type combine requiring a 130hp or larger tractor, 30 inch rotor and 245 bushel grain tank.

International 4 wheel drives (4786)

The 4786 was the 6 tractor in the 4WD line. This tractor was built in 1979 and was the power fullest tractor IH ever offered. The steiger built 350 HP was meant for a farm that was measured by sections. The 800 cubic inch turbo diesel V8 engine was capable of pulling multiple pieces of equipment. You could fertilize, till and smooth the seed bed in 1 pass. That was a good way to save time. The other 86 series 4 wheel drive included the 4586 and the 4386. the 4586 had 235 HP. The 4386 had 175 HP. The 86 series 4 wheel drives were updated from a white roof to a red one.

International 4 wheel drives (4568)

The 4568 is the 5 tractor in the series. The 4568 had the new V8 power. This tractor was made in 1976 and was the powerfullest tractor of its time. The new V8 gave the tractor 300 hp. This tractor was made to pull large implements through all kinds of terrain and conditions. The engine was an 800 cubic inch V8 turbocharged diesel. This tractor was the first to use a V8 instead of a 6 cylinder diesel. The 4568 had an easy shifting transmission with 10 forward speeds and 2 in reverse. The deluxe ROPS safety cab came standard with heater an air conditioning. The 4568 is a good tractor.

International 4 wheel drives (4366)

The 4366 was the 4 IH modal for 4 wheel drives. In 1970 IH looked for an out side vendor to build an articulated 4 WD tractor. There first choice was MRS (Mississippi Road Supply) to build the 4166, 4168, 4266, 4366 and 4468. For what ever reason the IH/MRS venture fell apart. IH turned to steiger to build their 4 wheel drives. IH purchased 30% of steiger and got working. The 4366 was the only model to be built from the MRS line up. The 4366 had a steiger safari cab and frame. It had an IH engine and the final gear assemblies from a 1466. The first models had a white cab but later had red cabs like the rest of the 66 series.

International 4 wheel drives (4166)

The 4166 was the 3 tractor in the IH 4 wheel drive line. This style was released in 1971 and ran too 1977 when it was replaced with the 4186. This tractor had 150 hp enough to pull a 12 bottom plow. This tractor was proven a high speed, hard pull tillage tractor. This tractor had 4 wheel drive and 4 wheel steer. 4 wheel steer is when the tractor doesn't bend in the middle the tires turn to turn the tractor. When not pulling a load 2/3 of the weight is over the front wheels when you are pulling a load the weight moves over the back wheels to boost traction. The 4166 had an insulated cab. With air conditioning and heater you will be comfortable an the insulated cab will keep the temperature. The cab also had a positive air pressure ventilation system to keep the dust out. This tractor was later replaced by the 4186 which was the last of the 4 wheel steer tractors.

International 4 wheel drives (4100 and 4156)

The 4156 was the 2 model of the IH 4 wheel drive line. The 4156 ran from 1969 to 1971. The 4156 was the power house of its day with its engine horsepower rated at 140 hp. The 4100 and the 4156 shared the technology of the IH's big row crop tractors the 806 and the 1206. The only difference between the 4100 and the 4156 was the decals. IH 4 wheel drives were the first 4 wheel drives that many farmers owned because they were so good. The rigid frame design gave the operator a choice of 2 or 4 wheel drive steering. The 4156 had a 100 gallon fuel tank that extended the work day in the field. A 3 point hitch, cab and PTO were optional. Front weights were necessary to maintain the tractors balance and traction.

International 4 wheel drives (4300)

The international harvester company also made 4 wheel drives. They were good tractors for farmers that farmed big at the time. The 4300 was the first international 4 wheel drive. They were good tractors but were too big for the small farmers at their time. Only 44 of these tractors were made. They had 203 hp. The production of the 4300 ran from 1961 to 1965. It was the beginning of the IH 4WD line that would run for 20 years. The 4300 came with air brakes which were a new thing at the time in tractors. It also had a rear hydraulic lifting draw bar. The lifting draw bar gave you the right height for the implement you would be pulling. The 4300 had no cab but a cab was optional.

International 66 series

The international 66 series was the first of the powerhouse international series. Next came the 86 series and then th 88 series. In this series they had the 1566 the 1466 the 1066 the 966 and the 666. The 1566 had 161 hp. The 1466 had 140 hp and could pull a 6 bottom plow with ease. The 1066 had 125 hp and the h ydro had 113 hp. The 1566 was powered by an 436 cu. in. turbo charged diesel Engine. Easy-shift dual range transmission gave the 1566 6 forward speeds or 12 with the TA included. Standard equipment on the 1566 included hydrostatic power steering, hydraulic power-actuated clutch, hydraulic full power wet disc brakes plus the deluxe safety cab with heater and air conditioner. The 1466 had a 6 cylinder IH DT-436 engine. The 1066 had a 414 cu. in. turbocharged diesel engine. the 1066 was also well suited for planting, cultivating crops and haying. An adjustment range of 60 to 84 inches was possible on the front axle, and the rear wheel tread could be shifted from 60 to 104 inches. A Wheatland 1066 was also available. The 5 million ih was a chromed out tractor. The 966 had a 414 cu. in. engine and was durable work horse over its entire range and delivers torque rise that made it number one in its class. the IH Torque Amplifier transmission, with 16 forward speeds assures the operator of the rate travel rate for any job on the farm and field.

International 88 series

The 88 series was the number one of its time. The tractors that they had were the 5488, 5288, 5088 and the 3688. The 5488 had 187 hp and had an optional front wheel assist. The 5288 had 160 hp and had duals to put all of its power in the field. The 5088 had 135 hp, The 3688 the mini tractor had 113 hp. The 88 series had a new air system. It brought in air from the toop of the tractor where ther wasn't much dust and blew it out the front. They had a new fully synchronized constant-mesh transmission. They had powershift between 1 and 2 gear, 3 and 4 gear and 5 and 6 gear. To shift from 2 to 3 and 4 to 5 you had to use the clutch. The 88 series are the tractor too choose

International 86 series tractors

International tractors are the best. They are because they have tractor sizes to fit all kinds of farm work. In the 86 series there is the 1586, it is the touhest at 160 hp. Next there is the 1486 , it has 150 hp. next there is the 1086, it has 130 hp. the last tractor is the 986 it had about 100 hp. these tractors are the right size for any chorse aroung the farm from seeding to feeding cows to combining. They have a big cab with lots of window space so you have a wide view of the land. With 2 ranges high and low and 4 speeds you can chose the perfect gear for any field work. They also have a torque amplifier or TA for short. The TA puts the transmition down half a gear if you are powering out on a hill and gives it more power. They also have doors on either side of the cab so it makes entering and getting out a lots esier. Thats why the 86 series are the best
